Terms of sale

Last updated: August 2026

These terms apply to purchases of artwork from Second Fin ('the studio', 'we'). Buying a piece means you agree to them. Placeholder legal copy — to be reviewed by counsel before launch.

One-of-a-kind originals

Every Second Fin piece is a unique original made from a reclaimed surfboard. There are no duplicates, reprints, or editions. Photographs on the site are of the actual piece you receive, but reclaimed materials carry marks of their previous life — dings, repairs, discoloration, and texture are part of the work, not defects.

All sales are final

Because each piece is a unique original, all sales are final. We don't offer returns, exchanges, or cancellations after payment, except as described in our Returns & damage policy for items damaged in transit.

If you have questions about a piece — size, color, condition, how it hangs — please ask before purchasing. We're happy to send additional photos or video.

Pricing & payment

Prices are listed in US dollars. Payment is processed at checkout by our payment provider; we never see or store your card details. A purchase is complete when payment settles and you receive an order confirmation email.

Pickup & shipping

Local pickup along the Outer Banks–Wilmington corridor is the default fulfillment method and is free. Shipping is available by individual quote due to the size of the work; quoted shipping is arranged and invoiced separately before dispatch.

Title and risk of loss pass to you at pickup, or on delivery to the carrier for shipped orders (see Returns & damage for transit-damage claims).

Donated boards

Boards donated to the studio become the property of Second Fin on receipt. Donations are voluntary and non-refundable, and donors receive no ownership interest in, or proceeds from, artwork made from donated boards.

Second Fin is an independent for-profit studio. Board donations are not charitable contributions and are not tax-deductible.

Intellectual property

Purchasing a piece transfers ownership of the physical artwork only. Copyright in the artwork and in all site content remains with Second Fin. You may photograph and share your piece freely; commercial reproduction requires written permission.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Second Fin's liability for any claim arising from a sale is limited to the amount you paid for the piece. Artwork is decorative and sold for display; it is not a functional surfboard and must not be ridden.
